We'e now spent a few days in Ayutthaya which is about 2 hours north of Bangkok. The city is far smaller than Bnagkok and it's nice to go to a slower paced area which isn't as touristy! We spent the first day looking around the local markets which are far more individual and impressive. There are far less restaurants which means you are forced to eat in the local market cafes which are great. Lots of local seafood and delicasies at really low prices and they're really tasty. We met a Dutch couple who we spent a couple of days with. They accompanied us round the city on a boat ride with a local woman. It was a great way to see the city and all of it's temples. We also saw fish piers where you could buy bread and throw it in the masses nof huge catfish to fight over. The rivers are all absolutely packed with fish, it's amazing to see. One evening we also had a meal at a restaurant by the river, watching all of the boats travelling by lit up with hundreds of lights, very beautiful. We leave the city tomorrow and are heading for Suchothai, an ancient city about a 5 hourbus journey north, with a lot of history!
